Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about RedactProof.

Security & Privacy

How does RedactProof keep my documents secure?

RedactProof redacts documents in your browser. Your document is never uploaded and never leaves your device; detection runs on-device by default. We never store document content: the only thing registered server-side is a cryptographic hash that backs your verification certificate. The optional Precision mode (Pro, off by default) analyses extracted text over an encrypted connection for higher recall; it never sees your document, the text is used for inference only, and admins can disable the mode company-wide.

Where is my data stored?

Your documents stay on your device: they exist in browser memory during processing and are not persisted anywhere. We store your account details, usage stats, and the cryptographic hashes that back verification certificates. We do not store document content. If you enable the optional Precision mode (Pro, off by default), extracted text is analysed over an encrypted connection for inference only: not stored, not used for training, and never the document itself.

How do you track usage without seeing my documents?

For Core tier billing, we need to count unique documents without knowing what those documents are. We use a privacy-preserving technique: your browser creates a one-way code from your document that changes each month. We can count these codes to track usage, but we cannot reverse them to identify your documents. Even if someone had your original document, they couldn't prove you processed it.

Is RedactProof GDPR compliant?

RedactProof is designed to support GDPR compliance. Your document never leaves your device, giving you full control over personal data processing, which aligns with requirements for data minimisation and security. The optional Precision mode (Pro, off by default) analyses extracted text for inference only: not stored, not used for training, and never the document itself.

Features

What types of PII can RedactProof detect?

Our AI model detects over 60 types of sensitive information including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, national ID numbers, bank account details, medical record numbers, crypto wallet addresses, developer secrets, and more.

Can I redact manually as well as using AI?

Yes. You can use AI detection to find PII automatically, then review and adjust before applying redactions. You can also draw manual redaction boxes on any part of the document.

What are verification certificates?

Verification certificates are cryptographically signed records that confirm a document was redacted at a specific time. They include cryptographic hashes that link the redacted document to its source, without revealing original content. Any modification to the certificate - even changing one character - is immediately detectable. Verification can be performed at redactproof.com/verify or using our independent verifier on GitHub.

Pricing & Plans

Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

Yes, we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all paid plans. If you're not completely satisfied with your RedactProof Core annual licence or Pro subscription, contact our support team within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.

Is there a free version?

Yes - a free trial on one document. Sign up and redact one source document with the full Pro feature set, with unlimited attempts and re-exports of that document and no card required. If you only need a handful of documents, Flex Packs start at £19 for five; the Core individual licence is £190/year.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards through Stripe. Enterprise customers can arrange invoice billing with dedicated account management, regional data residency, and tailored Data Processing Agreements. Contact hello@redactproof.com for details.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time. You'll continue to have access until the end of your billing period.

What happens if my payment fails?

If a payment fails, you have a 3-day grace period with full access while we retry the payment. After 3 days, your account becomes view-only: you can still log in and see your audit history and certificates, but redaction and export need an active plan. Update your payment method anytime to restore full access immediately.

How does Pro seat pricing work?

Pro is priced per seat with volume tiers - £79/seat/mo for 1-2 seats, £69 from 3 seats, stepping down to £55/seat/mo at 50+. Team administration features unlock from 2 seats. You can run 1 to 100 seats and adjust at any time from your account settings.

Technical

Which browsers are supported?

RedactProof works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend using the latest version for the best experience.

What file formats are supported?

All plans support PDF documents, including scanned PDFs. Paid plans (Core and above) also support image files (JPG, PNG, TIFF, WebP, HEIC, BMP) - these are converted to PDF and OCR'd automatically in your browser. Need to redact a different format? Convert it to PDF first.

Is there a file size limit?

There's no hard limit, but very large files may be slower to process as everything happens in your browser. For best performance, we recommend files under 50MB.

Compliance

Is RedactProof suitable for UK GDPR and DPA 2018 compliance?

Yes. Because documents are processed entirely on your device, you retain full control over personal data and there is no third-party transfer of your document. This aligns with UK GDPR principles of data minimisation and storage limitation. The optional Precision mode (Pro, off by default) analyses extracted text for inference only: not stored, not used for training, and never the document itself.

Do you offer a Data Processing Agreement (DPA)?

Yes. Enterprise customers can request a tailored Data Processing Agreement. Contact hello@redactproof.com with your requirements.

Can I use RedactProof for SAR and FOI responses?

Yes - Subject Access Request and Freedom of Information responses are a core use case. RedactProof lets you redact third-party personal data before disclosure, apply redactions to scanned documents, and export with tamper-evident certificates that demonstrate due diligence.
