Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about RedactProof.
Security & Privacy
How does RedactProof keep my documents secure?
RedactProof processes documents in your browser using client-side technology. Your files are never uploaded. Pro Detection Engine sends extracted text (not files) to Cloudflare for enhanced detection. This text is used for inference only - not stored as document content, not used for training. Need everything to stay on-device? Use the standard engine - no data leaves your browser.
Where is my data stored?
Your documents stay on your device - they exist in browser memory during processing and are not persisted. If you enable Pro Detection Engine (Pro and Team tiers), extracted text is sent to Cloudflare Workers AI over an encrypted connection for enhanced detection. This text is used for inference only - not stored as document content, not used for model training. Your actual files are never sent. Need everything to stay on-device? Use the standard engine - no data leaves your browser. We store your account details, usage stats, and cryptographic hashes for verification certificates. We do not store document content.
How do you track usage without seeing my documents?
For Core tier billing, we need to count unique documents without knowing what those documents are. We use a privacy-preserving technique: your browser creates a one-way code from your document that changes each month. We can count these codes to track usage, but we cannot reverse them to identify your documents. Even if someone had your original document, they couldn't prove you processed it.
Is RedactProof data privacy compliant?
RedactProof is designed to support data privacy compliance. Documents stay on your device, giving you full control over personal data processing, which aligns with data privacy requirements for data minimization and security. Pro Detection Engine processes extracted text via Cloudflare for inference only - not stored as document content, not used for training. Need everything to stay on-device? Use the standard engine.
Features
What types of PII can RedactProof detect?
Our AI model detects over 40 types of sensitive information including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, social security numbers, bank account details, medical record numbers, and more.
Can I redact manually as well as using AI?
Yes. You can use AI detection to find PII automatically, then review and adjust before applying redactions. You can also draw manual redaction boxes on any part of the document.
What are verification certificates?
Verification certificates are cryptographically signed records that confirm a document was redacted at a specific time. They include cryptographic hashes that link the redacted document to its source, without revealing original content. Any modification to the certificate - even changing one character - is immediately detectable. Verification can be performed at redactproof.com/verify or using our independent verifier on GitHub.
Pricing & Plans
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The Free plan includes unlimited pattern-based recognition, secure pixel-burn redaction, and unlimited exports with a small footnote attribution. AI-powered detection, tamper-evident certificates, and professional exports (no footnote) start from $25/month with the Core plan.
What is the difference between Core and Pro?
Core gives you on-device AI detection, tamper-evident certificates, and professional exports. Pro adds unlimited documents, a full audit trail, the Precision detection engine, and priority support. Both plans include secure pixel-burn redaction and OCR text restoration.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards through Stripe. Enterprise customers can arrange invoice billing with dedicated account management, regional data residency, and tailored Data Processing Agreements. Contact hello@redactproof.com for details.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. You can cancel your subscription at any time. You'll continue to have access until the end of your billing period.
What happens if my payment fails?
If a payment fails, you have a 3-day grace period with full access while we retry the payment. After 3 days, your account enters a lapsed state where AI detection, certificates, and clean exports are unavailable. You can still log in, view your audit history, and use manual redaction. Update your payment method anytime to restore full access immediately.
How many seats are included in the Team plan?
The Team plan includes 5 seats total, including the account owner. So the owner plus 4 additional team members. Need more seats? Contact hello@redactproof.com for custom pricing.
Technical
Which browsers are supported?
RedactProof works in all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend using the latest version for the best experience.
What file formats are supported?
Currently, RedactProof supports PDF documents. Text extraction and OCR for scanned documents are handled in your browser. Need to redact a different format? Convert it to PDF first, or let us know via the Report Issue form in the footer.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no hard limit, but very large files may be slower to process as everything happens in your browser. For best performance, we recommend files under 50MB.
