Bulk Mode

Redact multiple documents in a single session. Load them together, scan them together, and share your approval decisions across the entire batch.

Last updated: Mar 31, 2026

Getting started

Bulk mode is available on Pro and Team plans. Open the app and drop multiple PDFs into the upload area, or click to browse and select several files. You can add up to 20 documents per session.

Before scanning, RedactProof shows a file list with page counts and an estimated scan time. Hit Scan All to process the entire batch. Shortest documents are scanned first so you have something to review quickly.

You don't need to wait for the whole batch to finish. Click any scanned document to start reviewing while the rest continue scanning in the background.

Document status indicators

Each document in the left panel shows a status dot:

Session vocabulary

This is the key feature that makes bulk mode worth using. When you approve a detection in one document - say, redacting "Dr Sarah Chen" as a name with the exemption code "GDPR Art 6(1)(c)" - that decision is added to the session vocabulary.

The vocabulary is a running list of every approved entity, along with its type and reason code. When the next document finishes scanning, the vocabulary is applied automatically. Every instance of "Dr Sarah Chen" across all documents is pre-approved with the same settings.

The vocabulary grows as you work. Approve a phone number in document three, and documents four through twenty pick it up. If you approve a new name that only appears in document fifteen, RedactProof runs a text search across the earlier documents to catch any occurrences there too.

One decision, applied everywhere. The reason code travels with it.

Consistency checking

RedactProof checks across all documents for inconsistencies - the same text approved in some documents but still pending in others, or redactions missing attribution codes. This catches the gaps that manual review across a large bundle would miss.

Scanning and detection

All detection engines work in bulk mode. The pipeline runs the same way on each document: pattern matching first (NI numbers, emails, IBANs, phone numbers), then AI detection for context-dependent items like names and dates of birth.

Approximate scan times per page:

Engine Per page 10-page document
Standard (on-device) ~4 seconds ~40 seconds
Pro Detection Engine - Fast ~8 seconds ~1.5 minutes
Pro Detection Engine - Deep ~25 seconds ~4 minutes

The Pro Detection Engine has two modes: Fast (single-pass analysis, good balance of speed and accuracy for batch work) and Deep (deep reasoning analysis, best for thorough review of individual documents rather than batch throughput).

Manual redaction tools (box, word, line selection) remain available on unscanned documents. If you know a document well enough to redact manually, nothing stops you.

Exporting the batch

Export All downloads each redacted PDF sequentially. Files are named with a _redacted suffix. Pixel-burn redaction applies to every document - the original text beneath redaction boxes is permanently destroyed.

You can also export individual documents one at a time if you prefer to release them as they're ready.

On paid plans, each export includes a tamper-evident verification certificate with an Ed25519 digital signature and SHA-256 hash.

Session persistence

Close the browser tab by accident? The session survives. RedactProof saves session state to your browser's local storage after every action. Reopen the editor and your documents, approvals, vocabulary, and scan progress are all restored.

The session persists until you click End Session in the left panel.

Limits

  • 20 documents per session
  • 100MB per document
  • Only the active document's pages are rendered - inactive documents are stored as lightweight data until you switch to them

When to use bulk vs single document

Bulk mode is worth it when you have three or more related documents containing overlapping personal data - SAR responses, FOI disclosures, litigation bundles, mortgage files. The session vocabulary does the heavy lifting.

For a single standalone document, the standard editor is simpler and faster.

Plan availability

Bulk mode is available on Pro and Team plans. Free and Core users can redact one document at a time. See the plan comparison for full details.

How your files are processed

Your device

PDFs are opened, rendered, and redacted entirely in your browser. Files are never uploaded.

Our servers

Only cryptographic hashes and certificate metadata are stored - for tamper-evident verification.

Pro Detection Engine

Extracted text (not files) is sent to Cloudflare for enhanced detection. Processed in memory, never stored.
