Accelerator Installation Guide
The Accelerator is an optional desktop helper that runs the detection model natively on your machine, cutting scan times from minutes to seconds.

System Requirements
| Platform | Requirement |
|---|---|
| macOS | Apple Silicon (M1 or later). macOS 13 Ventura or later. Intel Macs not supported. |
| Windows | Windows 10 or later. x64 (Intel/AMD) or ARM64 (Snapdragon / Copilot+ PCs). |
| Browser | Safari not supported - use a Chromium browser such as Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Arc. |
| Plan | Core, Pro, or Team. The Accelerator toggle is not available on the free tier. |
Install on macOS
- Download the DMG from the Downloads page.
- Open the DMG and drag RedactProof Accelerator into your Applications folder.
- Open the app once from Applications. macOS will ask for permission, so click Open. The Accelerator icon will appear in your menu bar (top-right of your screen).
- The Accelerator registers itself to start automatically at login. You can toggle this from the menu bar icon.
First time opening? The app is notarized by Apple, so macOS will show a standard "downloaded from the internet" confirmation. Click Open to continue.
Install on Windows
- Download the correct installer from the Downloads page. Choose x64 for Intel/AMD processors, or ARM64 for Snapdragon / Copilot+ PCs.
- Run the installer (
.exe). Windows SmartScreen may show a warning on first run. Click "More info" then "Run anyway". - The Accelerator installs and starts automatically. It runs as a background service with no visible window.
- Uninstall via Settings → Apps at any time.
Verify it is Working
- Open app.redactproof.com in a Chromium browser (not Safari).
- Go to the Settings tab, then the Detection section.
- Make sure the Standard Engine is selected. The Accelerator card only appears for the Standard Engine, not Precision.
- Enable the Accelerator toggle, then click Check Again. The status should change to Connected with the port number shown.
If it shows "Not connected" after clicking Check Again, see Troubleshooting below.
Once connected, document scans will automatically route through the Accelerator. You will see significantly faster detection. A 6-page document that takes around 45 seconds in the browser typically completes in under 6 seconds on Apple Silicon M4.
Uninstall
macOS
Click the Accelerator icon in the menu bar, then choose Uninstall… Confirm the prompt. The app removes itself, clears its login item, and moves to Trash. No Terminal required.
Windows
Go to Settings → Apps → Installed Apps, find RedactProof Accelerator, and click Uninstall.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Status stays "Not connected" after Check Again | Make sure you are using a Chromium browser, not Safari. Then click the menu bar icon and choose Restart Bridge, wait 5 seconds, and click Check Again. |
| Safari shows a warning about the Accelerator | Safari blocks localhost connections from secure origins. Switch to Chrome or another Chromium-based browser. The Accelerator will not work with Safari. |
| macOS: menu bar icon not visible after install | Open the app from Applications. The icon may be hidden behind your screen notch if you have many menu bar items. Quit some other menu bar apps, or use a menu bar manager to reveal it. |
| Windows: SmartScreen blocks the installer | Click "More info" then "Run anyway". This is expected for newer apps that SmartScreen has not yet built reputation for. |
| No speed improvement after connecting | Confirm the Standard Engine is selected (not Precision). The Accelerator speeds up Standard Engine inference only. Precision runs server-side and is unaffected. |
Still stuck?
The Accelerator writes a log at ~/.redactproof/bridge.log
(macOS) which can help diagnose issues. On Mac you can open it from the menu bar icon via View Log.
